Thought deeply. Published widely. Taught effectively.
Is there a crisis of masculinity?
My thesis found more hype than actual crisis. It's a long, academic study that's not particularly interesting to the average bear. It was difficult to write, but occasionally makes a great point. Writing it taught me everything a person needs to know about self-motivation, and determination.
So you think you're Transnational
With my editing partner in crime, Kit Dobson, we turned a PhD reading group into an international conference, and then into a peer-reviewed collection of awesome essays. Transnationalism Activism Art is for you if you ever wondered what Banksy means to activists, how techno came out of Detroit, or how the slums of Mumbai are not like a scene from Slumdog Millionaire. Several years after it's publication the conversation about activism, art and geopolitics feels as relevant as ever.
Who were the Native Tongues?
Much more fun to write. A steady diet of old school hip hop for three months and out popped two original 10,000 word essays. Sample Quote: "Kim and Biggie had an intense connection; a heady mix of lust and love, marketing strategies and showbiz realities, jealousy, money and fame."
Why I love teaching.
From the age of 10-12 I was part of an improv group. It was the best possible preparation for the classroom. I'm a dynamic educator. I have a casual but knowledgeable manner in the classroom. I have taught everything from ESL to analytical writing to contemporary fiction. I'm addicted to learning and I love sharing those learnings in a persuasive and engaging way. There's a way to make ANYTHING teachable, you just have to find it.
